Daniel Dubois eyes 'revenge' as date for Wembley rematch with Oleksandr Usyk confirmed

Familiar foes: Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois will fight for a second time - (Queensberry)

Daniel Dubois will fight to become the undisputed heavyweight world champion against Oleksandr Usyk on July 19.

The blockbuster showdown will take place at Wembley Stadium, with Dubois vowing to enact “revenge” on home soil.

The 27-year-old, who holds the IBF world title, fought Usyk in Poland in the summer of 2023 and was beaten in controversial circumstances.

Dubois dropped Usyk with a shot that was deemed a low blow, as the Ukrainian was then allowed four minutes to recover. Usyk gathered himself and went on to stop Dubois, who unsuccessfully appealed the decision.

Since then, the Briton has claimed the strap vacated by Usyk, who prioritised a rematch with Tyson Fury, and made an emphatic first defence of it with a stunning knockout with over Anthony Joshua.

Dubois will now return to the ring for the first time since pulling out of a fight with Joseph Parker earlier this year due to illness and it will be the biggest night of his career to date.

“This is the fight I wanted and demanded and now I get my chance for revenge against Oleksandr Usyk,” Dubois said.

“I should have won the first fight and was denied by the judgement of the referee, so I will make no mistake this time around in front of my people at the national stadium in my home city.

“I am a superior and more dangerous fighter now and Usyk will find this out for himself on July 19.

“I would like to thank my promoter Frank for making this happen for me and I intend to repay him by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

The July showdown will be the first time the undisputed heavyweight world championship has been contested on British soil.

Usyk has plenty of experience fighting in the UK, having beaten the likes of Joshua, Derek Chisora and Tony Bellew, and he will now turn his focus once again to Dubois and the chance to become a two-time undisputed champion, which would further cement his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

“I’m grateful to God for the opportunity to once again fight for the undisputed championship,” Usyk said.

“Thank you, Daniel, for taking care of my IBF belt - now I want it back.”
