Daniel Dubois and Chris Eubank Jr to be stripped of titles in belt clean-up

British pair Chris Eubank Jr and Daniel Dubois will be stripped of their 'interim' belts in a clean-up by the WBA as they respond to criticism of their bloated list of 'world' champions.

Eubank Jr defeated Bogdan Dorogo in 2019 to claim his 'interim' middleweight belt, and has since been in action against Marcus Morrison, but is yet to challenge 'super' champion Ryota Murata for his belt.

Meanwhile, Dubois earned his heavyweight belt with an explosive second-round stoppage over Bogdan Dinu after his return from a shock defeat to domestic rival Joe Joyce late last year.

But the pair have been stripped of their titles by the WBA and could face a 'final eliminator' to determine their shot at a world title belt, or be immediately sanctioned as a mandatory challenger. Eubank Jr could now be set for a clash with 'regular' champion Eislandy Lara.

Dubois takes another step on the road to heavyweight redemption as he takes on Joe Cusumano on the undercard of YouTube star Jake Paul's clash with Tyron Woodley this weekend.

And the 23-year-old is ready to make a "statement victory" on his American debut to expand his profile overseas and put himself back into world title contention.

"I feel good about this and I have been waiting for the chance to get over to America and make my debut, now it is finally here, I can't wait," Dubois revealed at a press conference confirming the fight.

"I want to go over there to make a statement, come away with a good win and then see what is next.

"It is definitely the chance to show them a future world champions and I have made some changes to my team and I am ready to get back up there again and challenge for big belts.

Will Dubois become heavyweight world champion? Comment below

"I am sure Joe Cusumano will come and bring his A-game and that is what I want because it makes a better fight.

"We will clash in there and the winner takes all, the name Daniel Dubois will crack America now."

Dubois also revealed his changes that he has made in the gym with trainer Shane McGuigan as he plans to expand his boxing skillset to add to his knockout power.

"I want to be back in the firing line," Dubois continued. "We will see how I look after more time with Shane McGuigan but in the gym I have been looking different and better.

"Now I can't wait to show it all on fight night. I will be 100 per cent ready for it, while underestimating nobody, and will get the job done."

Dubois is joined on the undercard of the American show by British light-heavyweight Tommy Fury who is being lined up as a future opponent for YouTube star Paul.

An action packed couple of months is set in the blue-ribbon division with Anthony Joshua defending his unified world titles against Oleksandr Usyk, while Tyson Fury takes on a trilogy bout with famous foe Deontay Wilder.
