Daniel Craig returned to host Saturday Night Live on 7 March, in an episode that saw him parody the new James Bond film No Time to Die and poke fun at Fleabag.
The release of No Time to Die has been delayed until November due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the actor still took to the stage in New York to promote the movie.
During his opening monologue, Craig reminded the audience that Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought in to help with the film’s script. He quipped this would mean that in the forthcoming film, he sometimes turns to the camera and says: “The name’s Bond, James Bond. Is it bad that I fancy the pope?”
The joke alludes to a storyline in season two of Fleabag, in which the anti-heroine of the title has a crush on the “Hot Priest” played by Andrew Scott.
Craig recently revealed Waller-Bridge came on board the Bond film at his suggestion.
On SNL, Craig also revealed a “sneak peek” of the new Bond movie, which was actually a parody of the film.
It featured Craig, clad in a tuxedo, walking into a casino to tell SNL star Chloe Fineman he always thought her “game was stealing state secrets”. He asked her to blow on a pair of dice and quickly got distracted from his mission when he started winning.
Craig ditched his usual martini, shaken not stirred order for a vodka and Red Bull in a pint glass, and announced to his fellow casino-goers: “Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcement to make, I’m buzzed.”
