Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones: ‘When you tell a man you’re going to kill him, there’s no peace’

If you were hoping to see UFC champs Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones work out their differences sometime soon, you should probably let that go.

Cormier is the subject of an upcoming segment on a new edition of ESPN’s “E:60,” which debuts Sunday at 9 a.m. ET. In a clip previewing the piece, Cormier makes it clear he considers Jones a rival for life.

“When you tell a man you’re going to kill him, there’s no peace,” Cormier says. “It’s always going to be this.”

Cormier (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) headlines next week’s UFC 241 event in California, where he puts his heavyweight title on the line against the main he beat to take the belt, Stipe Miocic (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC). The main card of the Aug. 17 event airs on pay-per-view.

Ahead of that event, ESPN is releasing a profile of the decorated combat sports superstar, who is also a former Strikeforce grand prix winner and Olympic wrestler. Naturally, the rivalry with Jones is central to the story, including the August 2014 series of incidents that started with a brawl in the MGM Grand lobby in Las Vegas and continued to the fighters’ media rounds later that day, where “Bones” said he would “literally kill” Cormier if “DC” delivered on his wish to spit in Jones’ face.

For that reason, Cormier says the two will always be at odds.

“I don’t like him,” Cormier says. “We’ve never liked each other, and for anybody to tell you anything different is a lie.”
