Daniel Candeias in Mark Allen snipe as ex-Rangers winger takes aim at departed director of football

Departed Rangers winger Daniel Candeias has taken a pop at former Rangers director of football Mark Allen over his summer move to Genclerbirligi.

The frustrated 31-year-old claims the ex-Ibrox chief wanted to move away from foreign-based players ahead of the start of the new season.

Candeias, who raved about boss Steven Gerrard on Tuesday, reckons the club were going with a best of British approach ahead of the Liverpool legend's second season in charge.

A host of foreign imports were brought to Ibrox during the Liverpool legend's first season at the helm, including Nikola Katiic, Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda.

And Rangers spent £3million to bring Swedish Filip Helander on board this summer. Gerrard and Allen had also brought in Finland star Glen Kamara in January.

Allen left his role last month and the club's new sporting director Ross Wilson will be charged with finding the right players during the upcoming transfer window.

But Candeias, despite his Allen concerns, was again complimentary about the club's supporters.

He told Zero Zero: "It was fine at Rangers. It was a club that welcomed me very well, the fans always supported me.

"I felt a lot of affection from everyone, from my colleagues too, but this year things were going to change.

"I was important in the team but I felt like I wasn't going to have as many minutes as I'd had in the last two seasons.

"The sporting director didn't go much with foreigners in the first year, it didn't give much confidence.

"I think it was important for me not to lose momentum.

“I felt I could change something and preferred to try another challenge where I felt even more important.

"They welcomed me here, it was a club that wanted me from the first minute and that's what made me decide to leave."
