Daniel Candeias delivers Alfredo Morelos transfer blow to Rangers as he reveals Porto talks

Daniel Candeias has revealed Alfredo Morelos is ready to leave Rangers and he's excited to see him play for Porto.

The striker is being tipped for a big money move to the Portuguese giants after helping Rangers to the Premiership title last season, and Candeias expects it to happen soon.

The Colombian was a key part of Steven Gerrard's side and he is desperate to hold onto him, but his old Ibrox pal believes it's time for him to move on.

It's a huge blow to Rangers fans who hate the idea of Morelos leaving after four years at the club and El Bufalo will go down as a modern day hero.

Candeias and Morelos were close during their time in Glasgow together and he revealed he's spoke to him about moving to Porto - a place where the winger started his career and played five times before moving on.

It means there's set to be a reunion at the Dragao with Fabio Cardoso also joining the club after the Rangers flop rejuvenated his career in his homeland.

And while Rangers fans will still be clinging on to the idea that Morelos could stick around at the club, Candeias told A Bola: “He loves Rangers and it's a fantastic club, but after four years I think he's done his job. He will always be an idol.

“I think he wants to prove to himself he can now compete and shine at another club. Porto is ideal for him as there are so many attractions.

“They have direct access to the Champions League and there are the other Colombians in the squad. I think it will also help him play for the national team.

“I see a change in motivation. I've been getting involved with him, telling him that I'm waiting to see him at Porto.”

Candeias spent two seasons playing with Morelos and they had a great relationship on and off the pitch.

Many Rangers fans were sad to see the winger leave and Candeias admits he loved every minute of playing alongside Morelos because the striker was so aggressive and loved to score.

He added: “I was lucky to play with him. It was fantastic we arrived at the same time in Glasgow. We made a fantastic pair and things went very well.

“He’s a player wanted by Porto because he's strong, and while he doesn't seem to be fast he is. He gives so much in addition to scoring goals as he puts pressure on defenders and loves the physical confrontation.

“I think he will give Porto so much in terms of power and goals. He has a strong personality and always wants to be the best.

“He wants to score goals in every game, when he doesn't, he gets annoyed. I just loved playing with him - they were really happy times.”
