Daniel Berger withdraws from Genesis Invitational after AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am win

On Sunday, Daniel Berger closed the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in style.

On the iconic, picturesque par-5 18th hole at Pebble Beach, he first hit one of the best drives of his career, then hit what he called one of the best 3-woods in his life onto the green. He followed that with the best putt of his career from 30-feet for eagle to win his fourth PGA Tour title.

He’ll wait to go after his fifth title.

There will be no dramatics from Berger this week. On Tuesday, Berger withdrew from the star-studded Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club north of Los Angeles that is hosted by Tiger Woods.

No reason was given.

Berger will not be replaced in the field, which will now be 120 players.

Berger, 27, who won the Charles Schwab Challenge in June when the PGA Tour resumed play after a 13-week break due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, moved the No. 13 in the Official World Golf Ranking with his victory on the Monterey Peninsula. He talked afterward of how a lingering wrist injury that plagued him for nearly two years was no longer an issue.
