Dani Ceballos is set for showdown talks with Arsenal as he explores the possibility of terminating his loan.
The 23-year-old has started just nine games since making a temporary switch from Real Madrid in the summer. He suffered a hamstring injury in early November but despite fully recovering, is yet to feature under new head coach Mikel Arteta.
Arteta claimed earlier this month that Ceballos “is a player who can fit our style” but urged him he “needs to make a step forwards and make things difficult for my selection”.
It is understood that Ceballos wants assurances that he will feature regularly in the second half of the season amid interest from Valencia
Ceballos fears a lack of game-time will cost him a place in Spain’s Euro 2020 squad and would like to return to his homeland if Arteta does not plan to use the midfielder in the coming months.
Arsenal declined to comment when contacted by Standard Sport this morning but it is believed they would ideally prefer to keep Ceballos.
