Dani Ceballos to Arsenal: Loan deal close, medical expected, midfielder arrives in London

Arsenal made the perfect start to the 2020/21 season last weekend as they defeated Liverpool in the FA Community Shield on penalties at Wembley.

It was the ideal way to build-up to the start of another busy, action-packed Premier League campaign that gets underway in a little over a week's time.

And the Gunners bolstered the positivity around the club even further this week, signing Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes for £25million.

Now that Mikel Arteta - the Arsenal head coach - has strengthened his defensive options, he is looking to add a central-midfielder to his ranks.

Arsenal's next move after Gabriel

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of midfielders throughout this transfer window, including the likes of Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid, Houssem Aouar of Lyon and Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho. Yet it now appears that former loanee Dani Ceballos could soon be donning Arsenal red once again, with the Spaniard poised to seal a return to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the new Premier League season sparking into life.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of everything we know so far about Ceballos' future and Arsenal's quest to bring him back to the Emirates Stadium.

Ceballos poised to seal Gunners return

The Guardian report that Real Madrid midfield ace Ceballos is poised to rejoin Arsenal for the second season in succession.

The Spaniard joined the Gunners on loan last summer and made a big impression on Arteta during the second half of the campaign.

It is reported that Ceballos will return to North London on a season-long loan deal once again opposed to a permanent deal.

Arsenal closing in on deal

Ceballos is very close to sealing his return to the Emirates Stadium, a report by The Athletic, via the Mirror, claims.

The 24-year-old, who helped the Gunners lift the FA Cup last month, racked up 37 appearances in all competitions for Arteta's side last term, netting two goals.

Ceballos arrives in England

Ceballos' move back to Arsenal appears to be a step closer after the midfielder landed in London from Spain.

The former Real Betis star is now poised to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a deal that will see him join the Gunners on loan for the second season in a row, football.london understands.

Due to the quarantine rules currently in place, Ceballos will have to isolate for two weeks, just like fellow new recruit Gabriel is having to do following his arrival from France.
