Dani Ceballos 'singled out' by Mikel Arteta as perfect for his Arsenal midfield, says Matthew Upson

Matthew Upson believes Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has singled out Dani Ceballos as a stylistically perfect player for his midfield.

Arsenal battled to a 1-0 win over north London rivals West Ham, moving to eight Premier League games unbeaten in the process; the longest active run in the division.

Dani Ceballos played a crucial role in Arsenal’s win, having the most touches on the pitch with 121, while also completing the most passes with 86.

The midfielder had fallen out of favour under Unai Emery with injuries proving largely disruptive to his season. However, he has experienced a resurgence under Arteta and is now a thriving member of the team.

Former Premier League defender Matthew Upson was full of praise for Ceballos, and believes his turnaround can be attributed to Arteta.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live during the match, Upson said: “Dani Ceballos is probably the one Arsenal player on the pitch who is trying to inject some energy into the game.

“Since Arteta has come in, it's as if he has singled him out as a player and thought 'I know I can get more from him, he is going to fit into my playing style' and he really looks as if he is giving his all for the manager.”
