Dani Ceballos backtracks over Arsenal transfer comments in huge blow to club

Dani Ceballos has backtracked on moving to Arsenal permanently from Real Madrid.

The Spain international gushed about the Gunners ahead of his nation's European Championship qualifier against Norway, saying the loan move has been a very important step in his career.

He added that he doesn't feel sorry for his parent club Real Madrid amid their current struggles, suggesting that he would be keen on a permanent switch.

But Ceballos has since backtracked, saying his words were misunderstood.

He told Radio MARCA: "[What I meant to say, was] When I do not play, I don't enjoy myself. I have learnt a lot in these two years at Real Madrid, but now I am enjoying [my football].

"I knew that it was an important year, the coach [for Spain, Robert Moreno] has doubts and the one who doesn't play isn't going to be called up; it was a good time to go out on loan.

"With [Unai] Emery's confidence, I may have a chance of going to the Euros."

Ceballos has hit the ground running at Arsenal since joining in the summer and is enjoying his time in the first team.

"Right now I am where I want to be and I am very happy. My idea was to go out, play and enjoy football. In the previous two years I had not done so," he said.

"In this national team there is no one indisputable. I am very happy with the trust that has been placed in me.

"Our goal is to reach the European Championship in the best possible conditions.

"We have a team with a lot of room for improvement. We work side by side to show the level we want in the European Championship."
