Dani Carvajal insists Real Madrid are moving on from failed Paul Pogba and Neymar deals

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal says there is no point dwelling on the club's failure to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United and claims "revolutions" are not easy at the Spanish side.

Pogba was Madrid's top transfer target and the World Cup winner admitted in June that he was keen on a new challenge, but United were unwilling to sell the 26-year-old and no midfielder arrived at all in the end.

"Pogba's name came up a lot," Carvajal told COPE. "The transfer windows closed on different dates (in Spain and England) and in the end he didn't come. We have the players we have and we can't think about someone who isn't here."

Madrid's supposed summer "revolution" in the transfer market never quite materialised, despite €305 million spent on new players, as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez both stayed and no new midfielder joined.

"People always talk about revolution," Carvajal said. "But at a club like Real Madrid, where everyone wants to play and nobody wants to leave, it's not easy.

"Some players have come that will help us, like [Eden] Hazard, [Eder] Militao, [Ferland] Mendy... and I think they will complement a great squad."

Another player linked was Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, although the Brazilian was closer to joining Barcelona.

"You would see that one day he was going to Barca, another he was coming here, another he was staying..." the right-back said. "We asked the Brazilians what was happening and they didn't know.

"He is a top five or top three player. He would be welcome at any team."

Neymar stayed at PSG in the end and he has been joined at the Parc des Princes by goalkeeper Keylor Navas after the Costa Rican signed for the French champions on deadline day.

"Keylor was next to me in the locker room," he said. "I speak to him a lot. He wanted to play, to have minutes, and in the end I think it's the best option for him."
