Dani Alves agrees with "world class" Fred over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Man Utd tactics

Dani Alves agrees with the comments made by "world class" Manchester United midfielder Fred regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's tactics.

The former Barcelona right-back says Fred is not the problem in the Red Devils' ongoing slump, instead citing either 'Solskjaer or the club.'

United fans have been critical of the Brazil international's performance this season, particularly struggling without regular partner Scott McTominay.

And Alves has jumped to the 28-year-old's defence, saying: "Every Brazilian becomes world class when wearing the national team jersey.

"I hear so many people complaining about Fred. But when he plays for Brazil he is better than all of their midfielders.

"The problem is the club or coach, not Fred."

The man himself, who arrived during Jose Mourinho 's final summer as Red Devils manager in 2018 for £47million, recently told Brazilian media how he prefers to play in a more advanced role such as the one he does to good effect for the Selecao.

As quoted by UOL, Fred said: "We talk a lot about this role of second defensive midfielder.

"In Europe, you say it’s a box-to-box. You participate in the ball getting out and are able to participate more in the attack."

The ex-Shakhtar Donetsk man continued: "If you lose the ball at the front, you’re already there to challenge for the ball. I really like to play like this.

"I prefer it, my ideal position is to get more involved in the attack."

However, United's No.10 spot is deservedly reserved for Bruno Fernandes and it is unlikely Solskjaer will deploy Fred further forward any time soon.

But the Norwegian has noted how much he appreciates Fred and McTominay's pairing, who have starred in multiple big wins against top teams during his reign.

"First of all the stats for them two together we have had many good results," Solskjaer stated.

"The way we broke-up play against [Aston] Villa, I think they are very instrumental together. The energy and desire. I really like to have the two of them. I can trust them to give us what they’ve got.

"Fans will always have opinions, it is easy to say who should be playing."

Solskjaer is set to reunite 'McFred' on Wednesday evening as the Red Devils host Serie A side Atalanta in the Champions League.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, who boast superior CVs to most in their squad, played as the midfield duo in United's 4-2 defeat at Leicester City and were given the runaround in the clash, highlighting their deficiencies.
