'Dangerousness' assessment to be carried out on stalker who attacked woman

A stalker assaulted his victim three times and sent her text messages threatening violence, a court heard. Defendant Reece Stirland, 30, admitted a series of serious offences when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (August 23) over video link.

He pleaded guilty to assault, causing bodily harm to the woman on May 22, June 17 and June 19 this year on the victim. And his stalking, which involved causing fear of violence, happened between June 16 and June 20 this year.

He further admitted two charges of damaging property - to a wall and to an internal door at an address in Castleton Close, Ravenshead. A seventh admitted charge was also damaging property - an Audi A5 belonging to the stalking victim.

The allegations were read out to Stirland, of First Avenue, Rainworth, over a live link from HMP Nottingham before an application was made by his lawyer for a pre-sentence report. Background given to the judge included that Stirland had been struggling with Class A drugs for a number of years and has had two appointments with health and social care charity, Change Grow Live.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC adjourned until October 7 for sentencing, ordering an assessment of Stirland's dangerousness. "It crosses the custodial threshold by a mile but the court needs to know as much about him as they can".

He directed a "all options" pre-sentence report to assess dangerousness.
