The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced the arrest of two dangerous extremists in the Ziama Mansouriah region in the Jijel Province.
The ministry’s statement revealed that the arrest took place on Saturday.
One of the detainees became involved with terrorists in 1994, while the second in 1996.
They were in possession of Kalashnikov rifles at the time of their arrest. The statement did not mention the name of the group they belong to or the details of the operation that led to their arrest.
The statement only said that the arrest was part of an ongoing military operation that kicked off in early April.
The operation has so far led to the neutralization of eight terrorists, one of whom was killed, five were arrested and two surrendered to the military authorities, added the ministry.
It said that seven Kalashnikov rifles and several amounts of ammunition were seized during the operation. The security forces also discovered and destroyed several terrorist hideouts.
