Dangerous Lies tells the story of Estella Goodwin, who becomes known as Stella Gordon after witnessing a crime that puts her under witness protection. She is relocated to a town in Nebraska called Thunder Basin and has to start a new life.
The town seems to be a nice place but Stella doesn’t want to be there and is rude to everyone around her. That is, until she realises that the people are very kind and starts to open herself up to her new life. Especially when she meets Chet Falconer and the guilt of her lies becomes even heavier. However, she knows she can never be truly safe while the threat is still out there.
This novel was one that I could not put down. I was completely hooked from the first page, it’s written extremely well and flows easily. It takes you through such a range of emotions and I was really anxious to find out what happened to Stella and whether she would survive the threat she faced. I admit I went into this book with misconceived preconceptions, thinking it would be a clichéd story with a predictable ending, but I was wrong. It’s such a great story and it was one that I didn’t want to end.
Becca Fitzpatrick is a great writer and all her books are just so well written that there is no trouble getting in to the story. I liked her Hush, Hush series a little better than this novel but I still enjoyed this novel a lot. Though they are in totally different genres, they both have a main character that is trying to find herself despite being in a hard situation. Fitzpatrick is also really good at addressing relatable problems, which makes the novel that much more enjoyable.
This novel contains much mystery that creates an exciting mood and I think this is what makes it so good. There were moments that I found weren’t really needed but overall it was a great read. I would recommend this to people who like more contemporary or mystery type novels.
