Dangerous Dublin train gangs could be dismantled for good following Irish Rail update

Irish Rail has said that it is considering measures to prevent the unacceptable behaviour that has become all too common around Dublin train stations.

There has been a shocking increase in anti-social behaviour on DART services during the pandemic with one person left seconds from death after being pushed under a train.

Jane Cregan, a spokesperson for Irish Rail, told RTÉ Radio 1 that they are considering additional measures to combat anti-social behaviour.

Fines could be issued with authorised officers at stations including station managers and additional staff ready to implement them.

These authorised officers would have the ability to issue penalties to those causing chaos as reports of gangs on bikes and organised fights have been a constant worry for residents and commuters alike.

She said: "We are looking at initiating on the spot fines for anti-social behaviour on the DART."

Irish Rail logged nearly 2,300 incidents of antisocial behaviour over the past year.

Video footage of menacing scenes of late has brought unneeded stress and worry to communities enjoying a new found sense of freedom.

In April, shocking footage showed a young woman falling between a platform and a train after being pushed by a youth on a bike at Howth Junction.

More recently, weapons were seized on June 4 after an organised fight took place on Kilbarrack tracks.
