A drug-driver was described as a 'total idiot' as he was sentenced for a catalogue of offences including dangerous driving.
Uninsured Rudi Charlesworth, 28, of Campbell Drive, Carlton, had smoked cannabis either before or when he drove a vehicle dangerously in West Bridgford, on April 25 last year, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
He drove over a distance at high speed, went onto the wrong side of the road on a blind corner, went the wrong way around a roundabout and crossed through red lights.
"Eventually, having ignored every effort by police to stop you, you ran," said Recorder Stuart Sprawson as he sentenced him on Thursday (April 29).
He was detained but denied the offence and stated he was simply out for a walk and the car had nothing to do with him.
Back at the police station, he was over the legal limit for cannabis in his system.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, with a three-year driving disqualification, 30 rehabilitation activity days, 80 hours of unpaid work.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on April 25 last year; no insurance and driving a vehicle with the proportion of drug being above the limit, namely 5.4 micrograms of cannabis in blood.
He also pleaded guilty to offences which happened in March this year.
* Causing criminal damage to a Fiat Punto belonging to a man on March 17, 2020
* Criminal damage to property at the Bridewell custody suite on March 10, 2021
* Possessing cannabis and cannabis resin on March 10.
He must pay compensation of £350 for damaging the Fiat Punto, and £150 for the damage to a cell and cleaning after he had spread excrement and was spitting at the Bridewell.
The judge said: "Your offending is a menace in a number of ways to society, as I have outlined and causes great obstruction and cost to others".
And he said: "Your father refers in his letter 'you are a total idiot', and you are a total idiot. You are a father, have a child of your own, a step-father and a child to be born in the comparatively near future".
