Dangerous dog destroyed after terrifying rampage that left two people hurt

A dangerous dog has been destroyed after terrifying rampage that left two people hurt.

South Wales Police received a number of calls about the large Mastiff type dog which was out of control in Morriston on Saturday afternoon, September 28.

The road was closed between Pentrepoeth Road and the junction with Pleasant Street and Waun Road as officers attempted to subdue the dog.

One mum-of-two said she was confronted by the dog on Pentrepoeth Road, and feared for the safety of her young children.

She said: “I was walking from Asda with my two children, one of which is a baby and was in its pram.

“I saw the dog and stopped because I did not know what it was like. It went to bite my five-year-old son and it was sniffing around the pram.

“A woman pulled up in a car and asked if it was my dog - asked if my eldest could go in her car to get away from it.

“I was more concerned about my children than myself. I just wanted to get away.

“The dog bit another woman on the hip”.

South Wales Police confirmed at least two people had been bitten by the dog, and said following its capture it was humanely destroyed.

What is the law around dangerous dogs?

South Wales Police have declined to confirm whether a taser was used to bring the dog under control.

However, a spokesman for the force said: “We received a number of calls at about 3.10pm on Saturday about a very large Mastiff type dog out of control and attacking people in Clasemont Road, Morriston.

“Two people reported as having been bitten and those injuries are not believed serious.

“As a precaution the road was closed between Pentrepoeth Road and the junction with Pleasant Street and Waun Road.

“Officers managed to contain the dog and a vet was called to the scene.

“Due to its continued aggressive nature and further risk to members of the public the dog was humanely destroyed”.
