'Danger to life' weather warning issued for large parts of Scotland

A ‘danger to life’ weather warning has been put out across many parts of Scotland.

Areas such as Glasgow, Ayrshire and Fife have all be placed under the threat of heavy torrential rain for the next 24 hours.

Power supplies and travel could be affected by the downpours and coastal areas could see large waves.

Deep floodwater is expected to hit some homes and businesses.

The Met Office statement said: "Spells of rain, heavy at times, commencing Sunday night will persist through most of Monday before clearing on Tuesday morning.

"Typically 50-75 mm rain is expected over hills and mountains. Over a few mountains, most likely in Argyll, as much as 75-100 mm rain may fall."

The Rest and Be Thankful on the A83 was blocked off to motorists last night as the area has regularly been hit by dangerous landslides due to bad weather.

Scotrail have also issued a warning urging travellers to check their journeys in advance for delays and disruptions.
