It's a good day for nostalgic cartoon fans; the BBC has announced that Danger Mouse is getting a modern day reboot, with new episodes scheduled for broadcast on CBBC in 2015. Channel controller Cheryl Taylor said: "Danger Mouse is the last word in debonair and delightfully eccentric heroics. CBBC is thrilled to be kick-starting their adventures afresh."
Early signs indicate it will not be exactly the same Danger Mouse that fans remember: his trademark eye patch is apparently getting replaced with a multi-functional high-tech iPatch.
Separately, the Cartoon Network is developing new episodes of Powerpuff Girls. The series, which originally ran from 1998 to 2005, centres on Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, a trio of pre-teen girls with superpowers. The network issued a statement saying: "We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X."
Moreover, it has recently emerged that work is underway on live-action adaptations of two more 80s cartoons – Jem and the Holograms and Bananaman.
Are there any other cartoons you'd like to see revived? More of Cosgrove Hall's back catalogue to follow up Danger Mouse? An up-to-date version of Jimbo and the Jet Set? The further adventures of Willy Fogg? Or would we be better off just leaving these programmes as a fond memory? Let us know your thoughts in the thread below.
