'Danger for everyone' - Ian Wright tipping Everton player to prove people wrong

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright is 'praying' Demarai Gray keeps up his good start to the season to prove people doubting him wrong.

The 25-year-old joined Everton this summer from Bayer Leverkusen and has hit the ground running since making his £1.7million switch.

Gray has scored two goals in his first three Premier League appearances and is already looking to be a transfer bargain for Rafa Benitez.

Wright now hopes that the former Leicester City midfielder is able to maintain his impressive start and could cause 'danger for everyone' if he able to do so.

“What I’ve seen in the first two games – and people are already saying, watch what will happen to him, he’ll fade out," said the former Arsenal forward on the Wrighty’s House Podcast.

“You know what, I pray that he doesn’t. I pray that he can hold this consistency because again, that’s a player who, with his ability and attributes, is another England player in waiting if he can do that.

“He’s still only 25! If the penny drops, it’s problems and danger for everyone!”

Benitez is also hopeful that Gray can continue to prove people wrong but has stressed that he still has plenty more work to do.

"I tell him so many times, he’s done nothing yet, he has to carry on training well, and if he does, he has the ability to influence games,” said the Everton boss after last weekend's win at Brighton.

“I was following him when he was at Leicester, and we knew what we could expect from him.

“He has the quality to make a difference, it is just to make sure that mentally he is strong enough to continue in the same way as he is now.

“He is working hard in training sessions, he is improving and has more confidence and is always pushing to play.

“If he keeps training well he has the ability to make the difference in games.”
