Dane Murray signs new Celtic deal as player and Rodgers give their thoughts

Celtic have secured young defender Dane Murray on a new contract, the club has confirmed.

The centre-back has committed his future to the Parkhead club for the next three years, with player and Brendan Rodgers both delighted.

After spending part of last season on loan at Queen's Park, it is hoped the 6ft4in 22-year-old can get some first team exposure this campaign and this news is a clear commitment from both parties.

Brendan Rodgers said: "Dane is a young player I have really enjoyed working with and is someone who has really developed well across the past few seasons.

"I know there is so much more to come from him and I believe he can have a really successful future with us.

"He has a brilliant attitude to the game and is great team-mate within our squad. He is very deserving of this new contract and I am delighted for him."

Speaking to Celtic TV, Murray said: "I’m just excited and really looking forward to the future.

"Pre-season has been really good and I’ve really enjoyed every minute of it.

“For the team as well it was good, there were some really top-level games in there with top opposition.

"All the boys have been great with me since I’ve trained with the first-team and then become part of the squad.

“Everyone’s helped me a lot along the way, so you see the standards that they drive every day and the demands that are put upon them from the manager and the staff. Just learning from them every day can only help me.”
