Dane Murphy makes Nottingham Forest transfer admission

New CEO Dane Murphy says there will be outgoings as well as incomings at Nottingham Forest before the transfer window closes.

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is the Reds’ only new addition so far, after he joined on a three-year deal last week as a free agent.

Twelve players officially left the City Ground at the end of June as contracts and loan deals expired, while Nicholas Ioannou has since gone on a season-long loan to Como 1907.

Gaetan Bong, Carl Jenkinson, Harry Arter and Fouad Bachirou have been told they are free to move on this summer, while there has been interest from elsewhere in the likes of Joe Worrall, Jordan Gabriel and Brennan Johnson.

Forest desperately need to strengthen in certain areas, most notably at full-back and in attack as boss Chris Hughton targets a top six finish this term.

Derby County left-back Lee Buchanan, Fortuna Sittard attacking midfielder Zian Flemming and Watford attacker Philip Zinckernagel are understood to be among the club’s targets.

But asked if there would be departures in the coming weeks, Murphy told NottinghamshireLive: “We’re going to have to move some players out, to create a little bit more bandwidth and a little bit more space in our roster spend.

“There are players here who maybe see their opportunities are not as great here as they might be elsewhere, and they have expressed that.

“It’s a work in progress. It’s a very slow market. But there is going to be ins and outs as we move towards the end of August.”
