Dane Massey signs for Drogheda United after leaving derby rivals Dundalk

Dane Massey has pitched up at Drogheda United after waving goodbye to their derby rivals Dundalk.

The former Lilywhites stalwart has today signed for the First Division champions ahead of their Premier Division return.

He is the sixth new signing made by Drogs boss Tim Clancy who this week snapped up former Celtic goalkeeper Colin McCabe from Shelbourne.

“Tim rang me over Christmas and has been in touch with me constantly over that period, I was really excited,” said Massey

“He’s been telling me about the great goings on in the club and the young players there, a lot of local young lads with great potential.

“It’s a new challenge for myself and I’m excited to get going.”

Massey continued: “Everybody who knows me knows I’m a very ambitious person and with the squad Tim and Kevin (Doherty) are building we can definitely be competitive.

“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in. I played with Dundalk for eight years and really enjoyed it. But I’m going to take this challenge head on.”

Massey won five league titles, three FAI Cups, three EA Sports Cup and had two Europa League group stage campaigns with Dundalk.
