Dane Fife announces he’s leaving MSU, thanks Spartan community for ‘love and support’

Assistant coach Dane Fife is officially leaving Michigan State.

News broke on Monday afternoon that longtime Michigan State basketball assistant coach Dane Fife was leaving the program to take an assistant coaching position at Indiana. Fife confirmed those reports with a farewell letter that he posted on Twitter shortly after the news of his departure broke.

“Today is my last day at Michigan State University as my family and I will be heading back to Bloomington, Indiana,” Fife wrote in his letter. “… Michigan State will forever hold a place in my heart as one of the great experiences of my lifetime. My family and I are forever grateful for the love and support shown to us by the Spartan community.”

You can read all of Fife’s goodbye message below:

Fife has been an assistant coach at Michigan State under head coach Tom Izzo for the past 10 seasons, and was always considered a potential candidate to take over for Izzo once he retires. However, the opportunity for Fife to return to Indiana — he played there from 1998-2002 — was too good to pass up for Fife.
