Dancing With The Stars’ Karen Byrne says Fair City was a nice surprise after devastating news

Dancing With The Stars’ Karen Byrne admitted Fair City was a nice surprise after the devastating news the show was axed this year.

However, the 28-year-old professional dancer revealed she was so excited when she
got the offer of a role she said yes before realising she would actually have to act on screen.

Set to make her debut on the show tonight as student Claire, the self-confessed superfan told the Irish Mirror: “Fair City, I grew up watching that. My mam and dad are obsessed with it so I always watched it on telly.

“It’s funny when the email came in – I automatically said yes, I was like that is amazing. And then I was like, hang on, Fair City, I actually have to act.

“I’ve never acted a day in my life. It was hilarious because I was extremely busy that week, they asked. I kind of stressed myself out because I said yes and I’ve never acted.”

Despite the initial jitters, Karen, from Ballyfermot, eased up after help learning lines from singer boyfriend Jake Carter.

She explained: “It was a bit nerve-wracking but once I read the lines it was fine.” And after just one day on set, which included a socially-distanced jive for one scene, Karen said she’d jump at the chance again.

She said: “It was such a good buzz and everyone was so friendly, I definitely wouldn’t say no if they asked me again.”

In the meantime, the Dubliner is working hard to keep her dance school active.

She added: “You just have to plough on and be positive I suppose.”
