Dancing With The Stars' Father Ray Kelly was at an 'all-time-low' and cried after nasty abuse

Dancing With The Stars' Father Ray Kelly said he broke down and cried and considered quitting the show after experiencing an abusive phone call.

The Co Meath priest spoke of his ordeal on the Ryan Tubridy Show after he was eliminated from the hit RTE show last night.

Fr Ray told how he received an abusive call from a person which left him questioning if he could continue the show.

He revealed he felt devastated after "one of the nastiest phone calls that ever came to anyone in their life."

He said: "I took a call at about 7.30pm in the evening, it was someone with either a Cork /Kerry accent, that's for sure.

"And for some reason I was suspicious, I said: 'Oh he's not here, can I take a message?'

"Every second word was the F word, dancer, priest, parish, parochial house, housekeeper, fat, belly, dancing around the floor. And he laughing through it all."

“So I said, ‘He’s not here, can I take a message?’ and he said, ‘Well you tell him from me, and the whole spate again and I said, ‘Can I say who is calling?’ and he gave me his name.

Father Ray revealed he thought about quitting the show and told DWTS bosses that he wasn't able to go on.

"I said, 'look pull me out of this, I can't take it anymore, I've had enough.' And we talked and we talked and they said 'Report that call to the gardai'."

"I was just at an all-time low. It was eating away at me."

And he broke down in front of dance partner Kylee as the trolling took its toll.

"I looked at her and tears started coming and I said: 'Kylee, I can't do it anymore, we need to talk'."

But the cleric also revealed that he received a lot of support from the public and said that "they love me."

"I think they love me, they love the smile, they love the way I dance which isn't great, it's an entertainment show as well as a dance show and I think I just gave that little bit of entertainment."

Father Ray also revealed his parish are taking some precautions against coronavirus.

The Oldcastle cleric said: "The only direction we got really was from the bishops' conference was and they got a lot from the HSE, for example, we cut out the shaking hands and taking communion on the hand, rather than the tongue."

"You mentioned carbolic soap earlier and I've a pile of carbolic soap at home, I really should distribute it around the parish!"
