Dancing with the Stars champ Nina Carberry says she would love to do more reality TV

Jockey Nina Carberry has revealed how she would love to take part in another reality TV show.

The mother-of-two, crowned the winner of Dancing With The Stars last month, said if the right reality programme comes along she would jump at the chance of doing it.

The 37-year-old said she has received a few offers since the hit RTE show finished, but nothing has tickled her fancy just yet.

Speaking to the Irish Sunday Mirror she said: “We will see what comes along down the line. There is nothing at the minute that I’m mad for.

“I will find it hard to probably fill the void of Dancing With The Stars though. I have made friends for life from the show. It was such a new world to get into as I had been racing all my life.”

And she said she is looking forward to hitting the dancefloor more with her husband Ted too.

“When we get a bit of time we will definitely go dancing together because he was helping me trying to get the technique during the show as well,” she revealed.

The mother-of-two added that she was shocked by how fit dancing makes you.

“It’s so hard going on the body and I don’t think people realise just how fit you have to be to keep it up for a full minute and a half,” she explained.

“You are out of breath completely, I have never experienced anything like it. I thought I would be well able for it but I was quickly put back in my box. I have a total respect for dancers now.”

Nina‘s two daughters, Rosie and Holly, are delighted to have their mammy home at weekends now.

“It was tough for them because they didn’t have me for 12 weekends so it’s nice to have me back,” the mum revealed.

“We have something planned for with the girls, maybe Center Parcs, at the end of May so that will be good and the girls are really looking forward to it.”

Nina, along with fellow top jockeys Rachel Blackmore and Cian O’Connor, is helping raise €3 million to secure the purchase of Belfield House and lands in Kilpeddar, Co Wicklow, in order to ensure its survival and facilitate expansion.

The charity takes care of equine assisted learning for those with special needs and touches the lives of over 40,000 Irish people each year.

“The charity is a great thing to be involved with,” Nina enthused.

“It’s re-homing old race horses which is brilliant for our industry and it has great impact for people who just want to escape for their mental health.

“I don’t think people realise how good it is for people who have mental health issues and down syndrome and autistic kids as well.

“It’s an escapism for them and they feel a great bond with the animal.”
