Dancing with the Stars' Aidan Fogarty opens up on why he called off his wedding

Dancing with the Stars contestant Aidan Fogarty has opened up about why his wedding to his girlfriend of 14 years never went ahead.

The former Kilkenny hurling star was with Ailish Delaney since his early 20s, but admitted they only got engaged because of "pressure from society", reports RSVP Live.

He said: "I think society puts a lot of pressure on you to get married, have a kid and a house by the age of 30 or 32, and if you are not in that scenario you are nearly 'failing' at life, which is absolute rubbish.

Aidan and Ailish were living together when they decided to call it quits, and he admitted it was a "very lonely and heartbreaking time" in his life.

"Everything was booked," the 37-year-old told the Sunday Independent.

"We were at home in Johnstown and we had been very 'off' with each other and the two of us sat down and told each other we weren't happy.

"We had a big conversation and we came to the agreement that we had grown apart and made the decision to call it off."

Speaking in the latest issue of RSVP Magazine, Aidan revealed that he is still single, adding that it can be hard to meet people because his friends are at a different stage in their lives.

"The most difficult thing I find is that all of my friends are married with kids, so a night out with them has to be pre-planned months in advance," he said.

"To meet someone, you have to be out there.

"That was another reason I signed up for Dancing with the Stars because I am putting myself out there and keeping busy."
