Dancing, singing, cups of tea and helping charity too

Veterans from the Ayrshire branch of the Royal British Legion headed to a fundraiser to raise money for the STV Children's Appeal hosted by Green Shutter Tearoom in Largs over the weekend.

With magicians, live music, dancing, food, face painting, Gypsy Rose Lee and the infamous human fruit machine there really was something for everyone.

SAS Publicity Branch Member, Suzanne Fernando MBE said: "It was a fantastic event for a very worthy cause.

"Big thanks to Jim Walker for inviting the veterans along, including George Gibb who is 97 years young and his friend Jack Ransom who is a sprightly 99.

"I bumped into local SNP Patricia Gibson, husband Kenneth, Maurice Corry MSP and was amazed at how well the Largs Academy pupils done especially as they had been there from 7am, volunteering their time at the cafe.

"I would just like to say a big well done to all the volunteers and organisers for arranging this wonderful event, they all worked incredibly hard for an incredibly worthwhile cause."

Suzanne, of Saltcoats, is now busy organising a charity calendar with help from the female members of the North Ayrshire branch to boost the group's funds.

"I want to raise awareness of isolation, of loneliness and of age awareness of our ex service women or those who were married to service men," explained Suzanne.

"I am delighted to announce that we have Poppy Scotland Sweetheart, Amy Hawthorn on board too, so watch this space."
