'Dancing queens' give Donegal lad isolation birthday to remember with special performance

A group of "Dancing Queens" gave their friend a day he'll never forget as he celebrated his 23rd birthday in isolation.

For Shane Gallagher, from Ballyshannon in Co Donegal, the special occasion was due to be spent at home with just his family.

But his childhood friends made sure to make it a day he'll always remember as they dressed up as 70s pop group ABBA and grooved to 'Dancing Queen' out on the street.

Shane is obsessed with the band, according to close relative Katie Gallagher, who helped film the occasion.

The dancers all set up socially distant from one another for the performance after a drive by 'car parade'.

Karla Lacey, who organised the surprise, said: "We just wanted to be digging the dancing queen on his birthday and knowing me, knowing you, it's the best we could do."

Shane told the Irish Mirror: "I was overwhelmed at the effort they made with everything going on at the minute.

"It was such a nice gesture and it was such a lovely surprise to see smiles on people's faces, even the neighbours got involved and were loving it.

"The kids in the area loved it and were calling it a parade... so it was a bit of fun and excitement to break up the past few weeks for them too. "

We'd like to wish Shane a very happy birthday and hope he enjoyed the surprise.
