Dancing on Ice's new champion Sonny Jay has been defended by fans as other viewers hit out at the final result, claiming he shouldn't have won.
This year's series has most definitely been an eventful one for the ITV show. Firstly, producers had a global pandemic and national lockdown to contend with to even bring it to air and the 2021 run will go down in history as the most injury plagued one to date, with both reserves required to be used in the first few weeks.
Along with three injured celebs bowing out early, Rufus Hound and Joe-Warren Plant also had to withdraw due to positive Covid tests.
But after ALL of that drama, an emotional Sonny Jay and pro partner Angela Egan were crowned winners in Sunday's Dancing on Ice final seeing off competition from runners up Faye and Matt and third place couple Colin and Klabera.
As with every TV talent show result, opinions were very much divided on Twitter, with some viewers declaring that Faye was the deserving champion and 'right' winner.
One, very much Team Faye, ranted: "Disappointed. Just like last year. Yes Sonny has improved immensely but shouldn’t of won. That really should have been Faye. Maybe rename show as Most improved on Ice."
In agreement, another posted: "Sonny Jay wins...surprise! Nah, the judges have smothered him with love. Was ALWAYS going to end that way even though he can't do lifts, always makes mistakes (that are ignored) & wasn't as skilled as Faye."
And a third wrote: "Why does DOI always do this? Perri last year and now Faye?! I love Sonny Jay. Top lad but Faye was robbed!"
However, for all those who were left angry by his win, there was plenty of social media support for Sonny, with one reacting: "As Phillip said it's been a tricky series, but for Sonny Jay & Angela all that hard work has paid off. From Golden Ticket to the winner's trophy!!!!! ALL HAIL THE NEW CHAMPIONS!!"
A second tweeted: "Well done Sonny Jay and Angela, worthy winners, brill series," and homing on the argument Faye should have won, a third posted: "Her skating wasn't flawless, her legs in the lifts weren't great and she had a couple of wobbles. She also didn't let go of Matt once.
"Whereas Sonny skated a lot on his own and overall was more consistent for me. But everyone has their own opinions and that's fine"
