A number of Dancing on Ice viewers were frustrated as they claimed Gemma Collins 'overshadowed ' Ray Quinn's performance.
Ahead of the new series, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby returned for a festive special.
There were special performances from Torvill and Dean and other well known guests including Knowsley's Ray Quinn.
The X-Factor star won the 2009 series and became champion of champions in 2014.

But the show also welcomed back Gemma Collins, who competed in last year's series, reports the Mirror.
Whilst Ray was skating performing spins and jumps, Gemma, who was wearing a big frilly pink dress, stood in the middle of the rink before skating round waving her wand.
She put on a show for the audience, but Dancing On Ice viewers felt too much of the attention was on Gemma and not Ray.
Michael said: "What an insult to Ray Quinn that they put Gemma into his routine."
Sharon tweeted: "Just caught a bit of #DancingOnIce. Great routine by Ray Quinn, but why on earth was Gemma Collins there?"
Joanne wrote: "Attention should’ve stayed on Ray Quinn but then GC came on, stood still and took the praise."

And Debbie said: "Why put Gemma on with one of their best skaters in Ray?"
However, some viewers loved the combination.
One tweeted: "Gemma Collins and Ray Quinn ice skating together is something I didn’t know I needed."
Jack said: "Queen Gemma Collins returning to the ice and waving her magic wand around, love her."
And Liam wrote: "Gemma Collins providing all the xmas cheer you could ever need, the love I have for that woman is endless."
Earlier in the show, Gemma admitted she thought she had "died" when she came crashing down onto the ice last year.

She said: "I remember thinking, 'I’m nearly at the end, I haven’t fallen yet. Oh my God, this is a miracle, maybe I’ll stay in for one more week.'
"And then I got so excited. I just went too over the top with my movement, which you’re not allowed to do in ice skating.
"And then my toe pick got caught and bang. I thought I was dead. I literally thought I was dead.
"And then I just got up and thought, 'Oh no, my life is over'."
