Dancing on Ice under fire from viewers for not acknowledging Sean Rice's death on air

Dancing on Ice has come under fire from unimpressed and upset for viewers for failing to even acknowledge the death of former pro skater Sean Rice on Sunday night.

In the hours leading up to the first episode of the new series going out live on ITV, news broke that Sean, a professional on Dancing on Ice in both 2011 and 2012, had passed away at the age of 49 with tributes flooding in for him.

Fellow ex Dancing on Ice pros like Frankie Poultney took to social media to pay tribute to Sean, with former finalist Frankie writing: "Pro skaters are heartbroken today, we lost a true larger than life great - an epic skater, a husband, father, and my friend of 20 years

"Sean Rice, 20/07/72 - 14/01/22 gone too soon, but we will Love You For A Thousand Years. All of our thoughts are with Signey and Jodeyne."

Dancing on Ice viewers and skating pros and fans across the world were also quick to express their sadness at Canadian athlete Sean's death.

But those watching Dancing on the Ice's live show were soon left annoyed that the programme made no mention of Sean, who partnered Angela Rippon and Chemmy Allcott, during the two hour broadcast.

One unimpressed viewer tweeted: "Why no tribute/mention of Dancing On Ice star Sean Rice? I thought they would of done something."

Another blasted: "Shame on dancing on ice for not even mentioning Sean Rice who was a professional and who passed away today. They should hang their heads in shame !!!"

A third reacted: "I think it's very disappointing for all Dancing on ice fans not to even mention the passing of Sean Rice. He was a huge part of the show and on the tours," and another, equally disappinted, responded: "they should have acknowledged that at the start of the show but of course they didn't - he was as much a part of DOI as all of the other pro skaters are/were"
