Dancing on Ice to have same sex couple for the first time in show's history

Dancing on Ice will have a same sex couple for the first time this year iin a huge first for the ITV show.

While a lot is often made as to whether or not Strictly will have a same sex couple it will be its channel counterpart that makes the pioneering move first when it returns to our screens this weekend.

for 2020 include Steps star Ian 'H' Watkins and The Sun are reporting that show bosses have paired H with who famously partnered Gemma Collins during her headline-hitting stint in this year's series.

H , 43, is said to have asked Dancing on Ice chiefs about the possibility of skating with a male pro on the next series — and the “fully supportive” team agreed.

Matt, also 43, has been on the show since it started and as well as The GC, has teamed up with the likes of the show's first ever winner Gaynor Faye and Denise Welch.

A show source revealed to The Sun: “After conversations with the Dancing on Ice production team, H enquired as to the possibility of being paired with a male pro skater.

"Bosses at Dancing on Ice are fully supportive of a same-sex partnership, so this year H will be paired with Matt.

“It’s a huge moment in TV history. A lot of viewers will be watching and the hope is it might set a trend.”

The pairings for next year's Dancing on Ice are set to be officially confirmed when the show returns for a Christmas special, which is rumoured to feature Gemma.
