Dancing on Ice star Ben Hanlin: I slept on hospital floor as my baby daughter fought sepsis

Dancing on Ice star Ben Hanlin has recalled the heartbreaking moment he slept on the floor of a hospital while his daughter fought sepsis.

Appearing on Loose Women, Ben said that he had no idea about the risks of the potentially fatal illness.

Ben told the Loose Women panel about the "terrifying" moment he rushed his daughter to hospital (ITV)

The Solihull magician revealed that his baby daughter Delilah spent six days in Birmingham's Heartlands Hospital, reports Birmingham Live.

Ben kept the illness a secret, pressing ahead with filming after the youngster was discharged from hospital.

He told the Loose Women about the moment he arrived home, saying: "There was an ambulance on my drive."

He added: "My worst nightmare. Yep. They came in and took one look at her - her mottled skin - I said 'Delilah's seven months' - she was 103 degrees.

"We took all her clothes off.

"She was struggling to breathe, her hands and feet were going blue."

He continued: "The paramedics said 'we've got to go', they didn't mess about. Briony got in the ambulance, I followed behind and they took her to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, who were amazing."

Asked about if he knew how deadly sepsis could be, he said: "I knew zero. It was not on my radar. The worst thing you can do in hospital is start googling."

He added: "They gave her amazing attention, first they put loads of glucose in her, and then antibiotics.

"Within two hours they got her stable. From that, they monitored her."

The star admitted that he felt he and his partner were  "lucky" with Delilah showing early signs of the illness.

Ben then urged other parents to act quickly and call 111 or 999, rather than worry about "making a fuss".
