Dancing on Ice's Vanessa Bauer given 'promise' by Joey Essex as they cause final upset

Vanessa Bauer has heaped praise on celebrity partner and rumoured boyfriend Joey Essex for keeping his 'promise' to her as the pair caused a bit of an upset in the Dancing on Ice final by making it into the final two.

A former winner alongside Jake Quickenden back when the show made its return to ITV in 2018, Vanessa has had a run of brilliant partners since joining the ranks and has made the final once again, alongside former TOWIE favourite Joey. The surprise package of Dancing on Ice 2023, Joey has been a consistent high scorer on the rink, although he did have to rely on victory in the last skate-off of the series last weekend to make it through to Sunday's final.

And it is for that reason that Joey and Vanessa, who were 'outed' as a couple by Holly Willoughby back in the first live show, went into the finale as outsiders to triumph, with eventual champion, Olympian Nile Wilson the hot tip to win.

However, the couple were in determined mood as the clock ticked down to the final and they were right to be as they upset bookies' odds by beating The Vivienne and Colin to a place in the final two, with the reward of getting to perform Bolero.

Vanessa told her Instagram followers that, right from the start when they were paired up back in October, Joey had promised her that he's 'give it his all.

Sharing a series of photos of them together on her Insta grid on Sunday afternoon, she wrote: "All started last October and here comes our FINAL DAY! @joeyessex came into @dancingonice with no professional performing background but the dedication to give it his all! He certainly stuck to his promise and made me a very happy and proud partner seeing him evolve and our partnership grow."

Joey and Vanessa had a particularly emotional moment in the semi final when they skated to Lighthouse Family hit High, a song that reminded Joey of his late mum, who took her own life when he was just 10 years old.
