Dancing On Ice’s Matt Evers and Ian ‘H’ Watkins bring panel to tears with show’s first ever same-sex performance

Ian ‘H’ Watkins and Matt Evers brought the Dancing On Ice panel and viewers to tears as they made TV history on Sunday night.

The duo hit the ice as the programme’s first ever same-sex couple, executing a well-rehearsed routine to the Panic! at the Disco track High Hopes.

After completing the routine without any huge errors, Matt and H received 25 out of 40 from the judges.

When it was time for them to receive their critiques, the importance of the occasion wasn’t lost on the Steps singer - or judge John Barrowman.

Through tears, John explained that he felt especially moved because the pair “represent someone who is like me.”

H added that he felt emotional “because I have wanted this for so long and it means so much to so many people.”

“And the world is ready for this,” he added.

Former Rugby player Gareth Thomas was in the studio audience and could be seen cheering on Matt and H.

Fans watching at home also praised the duo for their efforts:

Sunday night’s series opener saw half of this year’s celebrities perform with their professional partners. Viewers then voted to decide which of them would be in the skate off, which will take place next Sunday.

Unfortunately, having taken a tumble on the ice, Trisha Goddard will be skating again.

The remaining couples will take to the ice next week and whoever receives the least votes will be up against Trisha in the skate off.
