Dancing on Ice's Ashley Banjo pays tribute to Phillip Schofield during live show

Dancing on Ice judge Ashley Banjo spoke out in support of Phillip Schofield as the TV presenter returned to our screens for the first time since announcing he is gay.

Just over 48 hours after the big reveal about his sexuality on Instagram and in a live interview on This Morning, Phillip, 57, returned to host Dancing on Ice alongside close pal Holly Willoughby on Sunday night.

And, while , Diversity star Ashley paid tribute to him, in a speech which you can watch in the video above taken from ITV. Changing the subject and going off script from talking about the fact it was Dance Week, Ashley told Phillip he was "an absolute legend" adding "no more so than this week," with his words being greeted by a rapturous reaction from the studio audience.

Looking visibly moved, Phillip replied "It's not about me!" before moving on with proceedings. Following his announcement on Friday, fellow Dancing on Ice judge John Barrowman also paid tribute to Phillip, tweeting "So proud of you and your family Phillip. Welcome to your truth and authentic self. The nation loves you for who you because you are."

Another Dancing on Ice star who has praised Phillip is Ian 'H' Watkins who has made history on the show this year by being one half of its first same-sex partnership.

He posted "Bravo Phillip for your honesty.. Coming out is difficult but your family, friends and fans will be proud of you being your authentic self.. I’m proud of your bravery..

"Welcome officially to our beautiful rainbow family! We and our ally’s will keep you safe xx"
