Dancing on Ice puts coronavirus emergency procedures in place ahead of Sunday's live show

As it spreads across the world at a rather alarming rate, coronavirus has forced Dancing on Ice to put emergency prodecures in place.

In the past week coronavirus has prompted a Tenerife hotel to be put on lockdown, all schools in Japan to be shut as well as some in the UK after people have tested positive for the virus and others have exhibited symptoms after returning from affected areas.

With 19 cases now reported in the UK and 36 schools closed, there are concerns the outbreak may reach the studio at RAF Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.

And the ITV show's Associate Creative Director Dan Whiston admitted he does not want to 'panic' people but revealed a medical team in on standby.

Procedures taken so far include hand sanitiser on the doorways and other steps in place to protect the skaters, the crew, the audience and Dancing on Ice presenters Phillip Schofield, who raised his own coronavirus concerns on This Morning earlier this week.

Dan told The Sun : We've got an amazing medical team. We've got an amazing production team that are all over this kind of stuff.

"There is hand sanitiser everywhere and procedures have been put in place to protect the cast and crew, so I know they're all over that. Without panicking people, you've got to be one step in front, always.

"Things like hand sanitiser on the doorways, we encourage that anyway. You've got to step up and do the best you can in the environment we're in."

This Sunday will see Dancing on Ice 2020's remaining contestants compete in the semi-final, with Diversity dancer Perri Kiely the clear favourite to wins after getting the first 10s of the series and a near perfect score last week.
