Dancing on Ice plans Phillip Schofield tribute as presenter comes out as gay

Dancing on Ice bosses and contestants are said to be lining up an 'emotional' tribute to the show's famous host Phillip Schofield after he came out as gay on Friday.

In the showbiz story that dominated headlines on Friday, legendary TV host Phillip, 57, made a very public announcement about his sexuality, firstly in a poignant and frank Instagram post and then in a touching interview with This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby, in which he praised his wife of nearly 27 years, Steph Lowe, for being so supportive.

A number of Phillip's Dancing on Ice colleagues immediately showed their support for him on social media with new judge John Barrowman tweeting "So proud of you and your family Phillip. Welcome to your truth and authentic self. The nation loves you for who you because you are."

And it is now being reported that the ITV show plans to celebrate Phillip's coming out live on air during Sunday's show. A source told The Sun: "Phillip is a huge part of the Dancing on Ice team and they want him to know they are there for him 100 per cent.

"The cast are ridiculously proud of him. They will definitely be there to support him at the live show on Sunday and raise a glass to him.

"It's nothing but love and hugs as he is a massive part of the family, so this is major."

Another Dancing on Ice star who has praised Phillip is Ian 'H' Watkins who has made history on the show this year by being one half of its first same-sex partnership.

He posted "Bravo Phillip for your honesty.. Coming out is difficult but your family, friends and fans will be proud of you being your authentic self.. I’m proud of your bravery..

"Welcome officially to our beautiful rainbow family! We and our ally’s will keep you safe xx"
