Dancing on Ice 'lining up black pro skater in diversity drive' after same sex couple

Dancing on Ice is lining up a black professional skater, according to reports.

It's said bosses at ITV are renewing their diversity and inclusivity drive after 2019's series saw the skating hit's first same-sex couple take to the ice.

The broadcaster announced earlier this month its intention to create to "create more opportunities for those from Black, Asian, minority ethnic and other underrepresented groups."

Now a source has told that Dancing on Ice could see its second black professional skater, after Oscar Peter skated with Caprice Bourret last year.

The insider told The Sun : "ITV wants to make sure Dancing on Ice is fully representative.

"It's one of its biggest shows and it's important it is diverse and inclusive.

"They are currently screen-testing black skaters but have yet to settle on someone who they think will slip into the team seamlessly."

They added that ITV bosses feel it would be a "natural step" after Ian "H" Watkins and Matt Evers skated together last year.

ITV declined to comment when approached by Mirror Online.

This report comes shortly after Dancing on Ice veteran Brianne Delcourt announced she'd be leaving the show behind after 10 years.

She got together with celeb partner Kevin Kilbane during the last series, dishing to Hello! that her decision to leave the show had been an "emotional" one.

Alex Murphy also won't be returning, after she announced that her contract with ITV wouldn't be renewed.

Alex skated to victory with celeb partner Joe Swash in 2019 - who slammed ITV's decision as "terrible."

Celebs were recently snapped heading to secret auditions for a spot on the next show, including Denise Van Outen, Love Island's Luke Trotman, Made in Chelsea's Olivia Bentley, TOWIE's Billie Faiers and RuPaul's Drag Race star Baga Chipz.

Meanwhile, over at the BBC, it's thought Strictly Come Dancing will follow in Dancing on Ice's footsteps - by including two same sex couples during the next series.

2019 saw pros Johannes Radebe and Graziano di Prima dance together in a one-off routine.
