Dancing On Ice's Jayne Torvill's sweet gesture to Christopher Dean on show revealed

Dancing On Ice duo Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill have revealed just how cute they are on the set of the ITV show.

Speaking ahead of the new series launching on Sunday night, Christopher, 63, divulged the details of a super sweet ritual his long-time skating partner carries out on the show.

The Olympic gold medallist has explained how whenever the celebrity contestants face some tough moves on the ice, Jayne, 64, will grab his hand as the professional skaters watch on.

The former British, European, Olympic and World champions have been impressing on the ice rink together since 1975 - even becoming the highest-scoring figure skaters of all time for a single programme at the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics.

Now popular judges on ITV series Dancing On Ice, the pair are still as close as ever - even grabbing each other in solidarity as the famous novice skaters try to take on daring stunts on the show.

"When you know there is a big trick coming up and the odds are say, 50/50, Jayne often grabs my hand and squeezes as they're coming up to that move," Christopher explained.

"We are willing everybody to do the best that they can do but it's live on the night and you never know what you're going to get."

The skating legend also confessed he loves to see the celebrity contestants take risks on the ice - like Perri Kiely's backflip on the 2020 series.

"When somebody does that, it's a real sense of achievement that four months before they hadn't even skated," he exclaimed.

"To see the progress and their ability and their daring to actually put that together, it's really exciting. Ice is so unforgiving, it's not like you've got the friction of a dance floor, ice is slippery and they are on thin blades.

Christopher and Jayne return to our screens on Sunday night, as the latest series of Dancing On Ice kicks off - with Ashley Banjo and newbie Oti Mabuse also joining them on the judging panel.

"As a professional dancer I have always had so much respect for the skating professionals on Dancing on Ice," Oti gushed when it was confirmed she would be replacing John Barrowman on the ITV show.

"It is an exceptional skill that is also so beautiful to watch."

Celebrities hoping to be crowned champion this year are former Love Island star Liberty Poole, Happy Mondays legend Bez and Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor, Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt, Brendan Cole, Connor Ball, Ria Hebden, Kye Whyte, singer Rachel Stevens, Regan Gascoigne, Ben Foden and paralympic athlete Stef Reid.
