Dancing On Ice's Phillip Schofield admits he loves seeing celebs take a tumble

Dancing On Ice host Phillip Schofield has spoken out about the 'most dangerous show on TV'.

The programme returns to ITV this weekend with Phil's co-star Holly Willoughby joining the 59-year-old on presenting duties.

However as 12 wide-eyed celebs get ready to get their skates on, fans of the show know the ice can be a cruel mistress with many contestants coming a cropper.

Referring to the potential pitfalls on This Morning, Phil admitted he and Holly 'loved a trip', "but you never want to see blood on the ice as it's a nightmare to get out".

Current contestant Kimberley Wyatt has already taken a tumble in rehearsals.

The former Pussycat Doll, 39, almost smashed face-first onto the rink while training with her with partner Mark Henretty.

Then there was the epic Gemma Collins fall when the Diva Forever star tripped and and fell face-first on the ice during one of her routines in 2019.

The GC returned for a Christmas special of the show and told Holly and Phil she thought she'd 'died' after 'getting too excited".

"I just went too over the top with my movement, which you're not allowed to do in ice skating and my toe pick got caught – and bang.

"I thought I was dead. I literally thought I was dead," she said.

Former England goalie David Seaman's headbanger turned ugly after he had an unfortunate accident with his skating partner Pam O'Connor in 2006.

During rehearsals, David attempted to swing Pam round by her feet with her face just inches away from the ice.

However, the sportsman accidentally dropped his partner onto the ice in a horrific crash.

Pam was rushed to hospital after splitting open her chin and needed stitches, but miraculously returned to the ice to skate with David again.

Sadly for Pam, that wasn't her only injury of the series, as during another routine David landed on her head and dislocated her shoulder

Dancing on Ice favourite Matt Evers also suffered a shocking injury.

The professional skater's face was sliced open in a freak accident with Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter during a neck spin.

Jorgie slipped while wrapping her legs around his face in a dress rehearsal, sending her blade swiftly across Matt's forehead.

Matt had a huge cut down the centre of his face and was rushed to hospital to be stitched up.

However, the consummate professional bravely got back on the ice for the live performance.

Probably the most horrific injury ever seen on the show was when Brookside actress Jennifer Ellison sliced her own scalp in shocking scenes.

The mum-of-three attempted a scorpion kick where she arched back and kicked up a leg, but it ended in disaster in 2012.

Paramedics were called as blood started streaming from her head, so much so that her hair changed colour.

"At the end of the routine Jen does a scorpion kick. She threw her leg really high and the heel of her skate has gone into the back of her head," explain pro skater Dan.

"Her whole hair was just red because obviously the heart's pumping and a lot of blood's come out. But she's in great hands."

Dancing On Ice starts on ITV on Sunday at 6.30pm.
