Dancing On Ice has not had female winner since 2013 as Sonny Jay takes trophy

Dancing On Ice star Sonny Jay became the 2021 winner on Sunday night alongside his skating partner Angela Egan, beating Faye Brookes and her partner Matt Evers to the crown.

But the show has not seen a female winner since 2013, with Joe Swash taking home the trophy in 2020 alongside Alex Murphy.

Before that, James Jordan won the show alongside Alexandra Schuaman, and in 2018 Jake Quickenden and Vanessa Bauer won.

Before that, the show was on hiatus from 2014, when Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov won, and 2013 was the last time a woman won, with Beth Tweddle victorious alongside Daniel Whiston.

Viewers noticed the trend and wondered if it meant 2021 would be won by Faye, as one tweeted: " # DancingOnIce Not sure ITV will be wanting their 4th male winner in a row right now..........

"Will it happen or will it be the first woman since 2013."

Another complained: "Ooh look another Male Celeb winning # DancingOnIce making it what four straight years."

A third added: "Angela Egan could win on her debut year, whereas Matt Evers could score his second win on the show.

"Also the boys have won the show for the past 3 years since the show was revived. If Faye wins, she'll be the first female winner since Beth Tweddle in 2013. # DancingOnIce ".

Judge John Barrowman recently claimed it was harder for the male contestants, as they have to learn how to do lifts.

Speaking to The Sun, John explained: "It is difficult for the male skaters.

"They not only have to learn how to skate but have to learn how to lift and do spectacular lifts in order to impress.

"The female skaters, having learned how to skate, get lifted and don’t spend a lot of time on the ice because the lifts are so spectacular."
