Dancing on Ice finalist Joe Swash rushed to hospital for emergency operation

There was even more drama on Dancing on Ice on Wednesday when one of this year's finalists was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation.

This year's series has been drama central when it comes to injuries and controversy.

First came the news that Michael Barrymore had to quit the show after sustaining an injury in training and then Diversity star Perri Kiely's partner Vanessa Bauer was forced to miss a show after smashing into a wall in a horrific accident in rehearsals.

Then there was of course all the furore surrounding Caprice and pro skater Hamish Gaman and their 'parting of ways', which prompted no end in speculation and ultimately led to Caprice's departure from the show, after she'd returned with a new partner.

And now, just days before the Dancing on Ice final, Joe Swash has revealed he needed to have an emergency operation. The former EastEnders actor's ear was caught by his partner Alex Murphy's skate as they rehearsed a roly poly move on the ice earlier this week.

His ear swelled up and he had to be rushed to hospital for an emergency operation in which his ear was drained.

His other half Stacey Solomon was left worried after he failed to return home from rehearsals but she was the one to share an update on his condition, saying: "Joe is safe and well and still dancing, he just had some sort of ear infection and it looks to me like they're being precautious."

Giving an explanation to fans, Joe added: "I've knocked the ear and it's like a cauliflower ear, it just got swollen and they had to drain it and cut it a little bit."

Perri is red hot favourite to win the final on Sunday but, just like him, Joe has never landed in the bottom two, so the result could be closer than bookies think.
