Dancing On Ice fans divided over Ashley's scoring as he's branded 'new Simon Cowell'

Dancing On Ice fans tonight compared Ashley Banjo to Simon Cowell - as they asked whether the Diversity dancer was the new hard nut of the judging panel.

Ashley returned to judging duties alongside John Barrowman, Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill for the show which saw Matt Richardson eliminated in his first week on the ice.

And while the show saw three couples join for first place with the highest scores of the series, some viewers reckoned Ashley's "harsh" scoring was reminiscent of a certain music mogul.

One shared a cry laughing emoji and wrote: "Ashley Banjo has turned into Simon Cowell tonight!"

After Lady Leshurr stunned with a Christina Aguilera-inspired routine, another tweeted: "Lady Leshurr even scoring high from newfound Simon Cowellite Ashley Banjo."

And while Faye Brookes and Hamish Gaman scored the same (32.5), Ashley awarded the pair a 7.5, as opposed to John's 8 and Christopher and Jayne's 8.5.

"Ashley's being a bit harsh tonight," one commented.

Some even compared Ashley to BGT boss Simon (ITV)

But others reckoned Ashley was spot on - pointing out that previously some fans believed he was being too lenient.

A fan penned: "honestly i kinda agree w ashley's scoring. he's being a little harsh, but you can’t give everyone 8s in week 4. gives them no room to grow."

Simon gained a name for himself on The X Factor's judging panel as the resident tough nut, giving famously brutal feedback during the audition stages.

Tonight's show saw Matt's elimination, days after he was announced as Rufus Hound's replacement.

Rufus is currently having to isolate, and after missing two weeks in a row had to drop out of the competition.

But Matt saw the funny side, joking that he'd developed a rivalry with Christopher.

*Dancing On Ice returns next Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
