Dancing On Ice fans call for show to be cancelled after latest injury blow

Dancing On Ice viewers are calling for the injury and illness-hit series to be cancelled as another star has pulled out.

In the latest blow to the long-running ice extravaganza, pro skater Hamish Gaman has withdrawn from the ITV skating competition after injuring his finger.

The show won't be on our screens this Sunday as it takes a week out for its cast to have a rest.

But many fans think it should be called off completely this year and return next year with the original cast.

Dancing on Ice original line-up Colin Jackson CBE, Denise Van Outen, Graham Bell, Lady Leshurr, Sonny Jay, Faye Brookes, Billie Shepherd, Jason Donovan, Joe-Warren Plant, Myleene Klass, Rebekhah Vardy and Rufus Hound (ITV)

"They just need to cancel this series I think for now and see if the same celebs want to come back next year," said one viewer on Twitter.

"It was a nice endeavour and a lot of people clearly worked hard but with injuries and positive tests it’s just made it impossible for everyone."

Another viewer tweeted: "Just cancel the show and run it next year with the same contestants...simple really."

"They should cancel this year's show bring the cast back for next year show," another commented.

Another wrote: "Time to cancel this year show!! Start again next year (with the original line-up) when it’ll hopefully be far safer. They are dropping like flies."

And another fan said: "It’s unfair on new people coming in, and getting voted straight off. Everyone should be on a level playing field, not weeks behind."

Announcing that Dancing On Ice was having a week-long break a spokesperson for the show said yesterday: "Each week our production team and cast have delivered a fantastic show during incredibly challenging times.

"The welfare of all of those involved is important to us and we felt it prudent to take a week’s break at this juncture."

In the latest in a long line of blows, Neighbours icon Jason Donovan missed Sunday night's show due to back pain and being advised to rest by medical experts.

And Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren and pro skater Vanessa Bauer, had to leave the show following a positive Covid test.

Comedian Rufus Hound left the show for the same reason while Denise Van Outen and Billie Shepherd both had to leave through injury.

West End star Denise quit after a fall which left her with three bone fractures in her shoulder as well as a partial dislocation.

And TOWIE star Billie suffered moderate concussion following a bump to her head.

Hamish, who was partnered with Coronation Street star Faye Brookes, snapped a tendon while putting on a sock in an injury sustained off the ice.

The pro ice dancer has had to withdraw from the contest to allow his injury to fully heal.

Faye, from Flixton, will now continue in the competition with Matt Evers as her pro-skater partner.

Matt was previously partnered in the 2021 series with Denise.

Dancing On Ice has no reserve skaters after already using Amy Tinkler and Matt Richardson, who have now been voted off.

In place of Dancing On Ice this weekend there will be a special dedicated to the show which launched in 2006.

Entitled Dancing On Ice: The Greatest Show On Ice, screened at 6pm on ITV on Sunday, this one-off will celebrate the most memorable moments in the show’s history.

A spokesperson for Dancing On Ice said the series will be back on air on Sunday February 28.
