Dancing on Ice confirm John Fashanu as second celeb contestant for new series

John Fashanu is the second celebrity to be confirmed for the new series of Dancing on Ice.

It was back in 2006 that the much loved skating show made its debut on ITV, with ex Coronation Street star Gaynor Faye the first ever champion, as she triumphed alongside Dan Whiston. Since Gaynor's victory 16 years ago, a whole host of other famous faces have followed in her winning footsteps, including Suzanne Shaw, Ray Quinn, Beth Tweddle and Jake Quickenden.

This year's Dancing on Ice was won by Regan Gascoigne, who blew the judges and viewers at home away with his performances, alongside pro partner Karina Manta. And, before long it will be time for a new batch of skating stars to take to the rink in a bid to impress Olympic legends Torvill and Dean and their fellow judges.

The first celeb contestant to be confirmed for Dancing on Ice 2023 was EastEnders icon Patsy Palmer and on Tuesday morning it was the turn of former footballers and Gladiators presenter John to be added to the line-up. Speaking about signing up for the series, John said: “I'm so excited to be a part of Dancing on Ice! I don't think it'll come as a surprise to people that I'm very competitive - I am definitely in it to win it. And this may be one of the scariest things I've ever signed up for but I couldn't be more ready for the challenge!"

John, now 60, played for Wimbledon, as well as becoming one of the best known faces on Saturday night primetime TV, when he fronted countless series of ITV smash hit Gladiators in the 90s, alongside Ulrika Jonsson. Dancing on Ice isn't the first reality show he's competed in as he previously made the final of I'm A Celebrity, in the year the jungle crown was won by cricketer Phil Tufnell.

John also appeared in gruelling Channel 4 show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
